The Calm On Terror: Why We All Need To Wake Up For Peace
With the news of another 'terrorist attack' in London, it is more important than ever that we wake up from ignorance and be the change that we want to see in the world. What do I mean by the term 'wake up from ignorance'? The word 'ignorance' comes from the word 'ignore'. Therefore, for someone to be ignorant, it means that they are ignoring something, but what?
Whether you currently believe it or not, within every person on the planet is a permanently accessible presence of peace. (Don't reject this possibility just because it may sound a little 'fluffy' or 'spiritual'). You see, peace is what the presence of your being feels like, and if you're reading this article then it means that you are most definitely a human being. The inner presence of every human being is a still silent state of calm wholeness and when a person 'Knows Thy Self' - by experiencing this inner presence of being - then inner conflict can finally fall away and we naturally become a positive and peaceful presence in the external world too.
“To be ignorant is to ignore the peace that exists within; the presence of truth that unifies humanity. To wake up from ignorance is to be attentive to the inner calm that transcends external separation, conflict and circumstance. ”
The Calm On Terror
This presence of peace is the universal equaliser and the bestower of union. It's what we all have in common. It's what we all ultimately are and what we can all have free access to - if we can consciously choose it - irrespective of our position in society, financial status, political beliefs, race or religion. So if we want to be part of the solution and bring about a more conscious and calm world, then we must take personal responsibility. We must make it a priority in our own lives to rediscover and live with an attentiveness upon the still silent presence within.
In the same way that adding fire to fire doesn’t help to extinguish it, bringing conflict to conflict is very similar. Fear fuels fear, anger fuels anger, ignorance fuels ignorance and separation fuels separation. The people who engage in 'attacks' do so because they are ignorant to the unifying truth that heals and harmonises. People experiencing inner peace don't promote wars. In this respect, we don't need a war on terror, instead, we need a calm on terror.
Be What We Want to See
Although the causes of the most significant world issues are complex and multifaceted, the blame game and the belief ‘I can’t make any meaningful difference,’ are disempowering and ineffective for bringing about positive change. It’s been said that if you don’t believe something small can make a big impact, try spending the night in a room with a mosquito. You can make a big impact and now is the time to stop believing the contrary.
So to create the right inner foundation from which to make a meaningful difference in the world, first check in as to how the most recent 'terrorist attack' makes you feel. Then consider if how you're feeling is adding fuel to the fire or helping the world be free from fear? Freedom from fear comes from living with peace, love, kindness, forgiveness and unifying truth. I invite you to meditate upon and/or regularly affirm the following Calm Cure Thoughts:
I am the peace that I wish to see in the world.
I am the love that I wish to see in the world.
I am the kindness that I wish to see in the world.
I am the safehaven that I wish to see in the world.
I am the forgiveness that I wish to see in the world.
I am the oneness that I wish to see in the world.
